It's been a decade since I reviewed a show and here we are again.
Today I'm going to talk about Drawn Together, which is a show that has gotten both positive and negative reception. I finally finished watching all episodes (including the awful movie) to have an opinion on the show. My thoughts? I find this show to be a mixed bag. I have a mixed feeling for this show. However, I'll say that this show is a little guilty pleasure of mine. I quite like the show and there are a lot episodes I enjoyed and it's strange because the show's humor is so rauncy that it makes South Park look like Phineas and Ferb, which is one of the few shows that I condier as a kid-friendly show. I actually like raunchy humor but this show goes too far in terms of raunchiness but it goes too far it actually gets very funny. That's why I liked this show. It's raunchiness was so over the top, it make me laugh a lot. Do I like every over the top stuff in the show? Not really. Honestly, that's the problem. There are times when the show's raunchiness cringed me and that happens in every episode, even the episodes I adored. That's the main problem with the show. Sometimes the over the top humor really disgust you and no wonder why some people hate the show. In fact, there are a few episodes that I thought they were so over the top they were so bad (One Little Orphan, Dirty Pranking No 2, Unrestrainable Trainable a.k.a. my least favorite episode, Lost in the Parking Space Part 2). I also dislike every time when the show makes jokes about rape and incest. The incest and rape jokes in the show are worse than South Park and Family Guy's rape and incest jokes. There are really offensive jokes and only %1 of them works in media. Not the mention characters' genitals are seen a lot in this show but it can be funny sometimes. If the show had made more clever jokes and less over the top rauchy humor, more people would've been love the show and I'd actually call this show really great. The premise of the show is really original but the executing wasn't that great.
The writing in this show is okay. There are couple of nonsense episodes but I'm fine with that. My problem with the writing is that some of the wiritng in episodes come across as really mean-spirited or really dumb. There are some well-written episodes though such as Breakfast Troll Killer, Super Nanny, Clum Babies, Foxxy vs. the Board of Education and Nipple Ring-Ring Goes to Foster Care.
The characters in this show are mixed. These characters are actually parodies of some of the characters in media. Some of them work, some of them don't. Foxxy Love is mostly a black stereotype but she has more personality than any of stereotypes in Family Guy at least and she is usually the voice of reason in the show and one of the characters that are not retarded (Wooldoor said that). Toot is my favorite character in the show. At first I disliked her but later she became really a bitch that actually made me laugh a lot. Wooldoor, Ling Ling and Xander are pretty good characters as well. As for others, they are soooooo bad. Spanky Ham can be funny at time with his toilet humor (yeah, the toilet humor he makes is kinda funny) but he's an asshoole most of time and I can't stand him. Captrain Hero is the worst superhero ever. I get that's what they were going for but they could have made Captain Hero's character at least tolerable. For crying out loud, he's an asshole, sooo dumb, soo annoying and he's such a pervert in the most offensive way. I mean he raped his own parents and he dates dead people. What could go wrong with Captain Hero, right? And the last, Clara. She's the most annoying racist bitch ever and she acts like a jerk to everyone and she goes too far with it (Unrestrainable Trainable, anyone?). She's so bad that I don't even want to talk about her anymore.
Okay, that was an all over the place review. Lets wrap this up. Drawn Together has a lot problems, some bad characters and really offensive and over the top moments that it's so hard for me to call this a good show but I still liked the show and I've seen much much worse shows.
OH AND THE TV MOVIE SUCKED SOOOOOOOO BADLY!!!
